THE ‘NO PERFUME’ PERFUME YOU DIDN’T KNOW YOU NEEDED

Posted in FEATURE ON February 11, 2020

Subtle yet irresistible, Juliette Has A Gun’s a Perfume is precisely as its name implies – not a perfume. Establishing a category entirely unto itself, Not a Perfume is the ‘perfume’ you never knew you needed.

Not a Perfume is composed entirely of a single ingredient Cetalox, sometimes referred to as Ambroxan. Usually only a base note, here Cetalox assumes the starring role as top, heart and base note. A synthetic substance, Cetalox mimics one of the ingredients found in the earliest iterations of fragrance – ambergris. Ambergris has a less desirable origin than that of the lab manufactured Cetalox, being produced in the digestive tract of the sperm whale, floating to the top of the ocean or collecting at the shoreline after regurgitation. As Ambergris ages, it develops a sweet, earthy fragrance and is revered for its longevity of scent. In 2015, a 1.1kg mass of ambergris was found on Anglesey beach in north Wales and sold at auction for £11,000.

Replicating the fragrance enhancing qualities and unique scent of Ambergris, the Cetalox found in Not A Perfume means that it is a fragrance of dual purpose. Not a Perfume can be worn as an enhancer (of scent longevity, heart and base notes) to your favourite perfume or for the minimalists among us, worn unaccompanied to boost the wearers unique personal scent. Sometimes it’s best to let the pheromones do the talking…
