Adventuress, travel journalist and free spirit Nina Karnikowski, Travels With Nina, exemplifies the art of the voyage, keeping her luggage minimal and her heart light.
What are your favourite styles of lingerie?
I’m a pretty easy-does-it kinda woman who loves comfort above all, especially with all the adventuring I do for work. So anything that feels great on my body, really, and doesn’t wriggle around too easily. I love a high-waisted knicker. I’m also big on anything multi-purpose (travel does that to you) so I’m a fan of bodysuit that can be worn to bed or with a great pair of jeans, silk PJs that can be worn to dinner, a robe that doubles as a party outfit, a slip in lieu of a dress, that sort of thing.
What would you never be caught dead in?
A padded bra! They make me feel like a robot.
Do you wear lingerie for yourself or for your lover?
I’m not sure there’s a man out there who doesn’t love a bit of sexy lingerie (especially mine who finds near-nude much sexier than actual-nude), and I like to spoil myself occasionally with a special piece that will last a lifetime and make me feel powerful and sexy.
What is your boudoir essential?
A good silk robe. I’ve been wearing robes for years, I fell in love with them when I first visited Japan ten years ago and have continued to collect them ever since. There are bag ladies… I’m a robe lady. The obsession is real.
Leather or lace?
Lace, for those 1920s boudoir vibes
Black or colour?
Brief or thong?
Brief, but I’m slowly easing back into the string thing after years of ignoring them.
PJs or robe?
Naughty or nice?
Can I choose both? It depends on the day…
Chelsea De Luca Fotogenico Robe
She’s travelled with me to four countries (including Antarctica) and counting.
Desvalido silk French knickers
I’m obsessed with Africa, so anything leopard print makes me happy.
Never Say Never Lace Eye Mask
A comfortable lightweight (and chic) mask is an essential for every traveller, and this is a goodie.
